Julius Caesar AR Denarius. Uncertain mint, 46 BC. Head of Ceres to right, wearing grain ear wreath; COS•TERT downwards behind, DICT•ITER upwards before / Emblems of the augurate and pontificate: simpulum, aspergillum, capis, and lituus; D to right, AVGVR above, PONT•MAX below. Crawford 467/1a; CRI 57; Sydenham 1023; RBW 1637; RSC 4a

Culullus, aspergillum, jug and lituus, in outer field right, D and below, PONT MAX (Crawford 467/1a / Sydenham 1023 / FFC 3) Splendid & desirable denarius of Julius Caesar by whom it was struck to pay his veterans: the 'D' on the back stands for donativum = extra donation to soldiers often paid from war booty. The legend on the obverse of this denarius honors the functions Julius Caesar held in the year of his victory over the Pompeian forces. His titles on the obverse are functional: consul for the third time and dictator for the second time, while the image on the reverse is strictly religious and refers to his previous status as one of the augurs and as pontifex maximus. The image of Ceres on the obverse may refer to the greater certainty about the Roman supply of grain that must have arisen after the defeat of the Pompeiians at the Battle of Thapsus (April 6, 46 BC) in North Africa.

WWII Womans land Army badge

With the country at war and all able-bodied men needed to fight, there was a shortage of labour to work on farms and in other jobs on the land. At the same time it was becoming increasingly difficult to get food imported from abroad, so more land needed to be farmed to provide homegrown food. The Women's Land Army provided much of the labour force to work this land.

When Constantine moved his capitol to Constantinople c. 330 AD., alongside the normal Imperial portrait types, he decreed a massive issue of coins commemorating both Constantinople and Rome:   The "CONSTANTINOPOLIS" types which also use an allegorical personification of "the city" as an armed and helmeted female bust facing left and have a reverse type of Victory on the prow of a galley - and this VRBS ROMA type with the "animal" reverse.  The reverse type for Rome is the foundation-myth scene of the shewolf suckling the twins, Romulus & Remus with two stars in the field above.

FVNDAMENTVM QVIETIS NOSTRAE. ECCLES. ANGL means The Church of England is the basis (or foundation) of our Peace. These were early propaganda tokens/jetons stressing that the protestant church was the way to maintain peace in Great Britain. Both Queen Anne & King George faced threats from legitimate claimants to the throne. These were Catholic and supported by french funds and sometimes french troops and had tremendous support in Scotland and Ireland plus some support from catholic families even in England.

Unknown Arabic silver coin ??

Abdul Hamid II. The bottom date reads 1293, which is the date of the ruler's accession, and the top date looks like 29 to me. So I think this would be referred to as a 10 qirsh of Abdul Hamid II, 1293/29, from 1903.

Yes, this has a bit of remaining detail – However, it’s going to need a bit of additional TLC if it’s to be identified beyond the basic generalities:

Roman Imperial (not Provincial – Latin legends, minted in Rome)
Sestertius (4 asses or ¼ denarius)
Orichalcum (naturally occurring brass alloy)
Antoninus Pius (139-161 AD.) as Caesar 138/9 AD.
Uncertain standing personification or deity (Annona or Pax are likely possibilities) small altar at feet and holding cornucopiae

Antoninus Pius was emperor during what is almost universally considered the height of “The Golden Age of Rome”
He struck an astronomical number of coins, with a very broad range of reverse types – there’s probably a couple of dozen types of his sestertii which feature a standing deity or personification sacrificing at a small altar.
Therefore, although this is not the exact same type, it’s very similar to what yours might look like cleaned-up a bit. The standing figure on yours also holds a conucopiae, so it’s unlikely to be Pietas.
Marcus Aurelius was Pius’ adopted son/intended heir. A further astronomical number of coins and types were struck for Aurelius as Caesar during Antoninus’ reign.

I hope your fall digging season goes well,

Initially I thought this was a tiny Celtic bronze unit but it could be a 4th C Roman barbarous radiate, I have sent it to our Roman expert for his views

1.02g, 13mm

Personally, I don’t like the term “barbarous” – I’d say “unofficial mint” or “contemporary copy”, but yes, this is what many would call “barbarous”.
There were very few antoniniani in the mid-third century portraying a smallish dinosaur on the reverse.
However, science is coming around to realize what those of us who have raised chickens, etc, already knew. Dinosaurs are not extinct. They are birds now after 65 million years, but birds are the surviving direct descendants of the big guys.

This, of course, poses the question “What was the person who engraved the reverse actually thinking or trying to copy?”
In this case, the only avian reverse  (I can think of) which is likely to have been copied in this era in this general area is the standing eagle reverse on posthumous commemorative antoniniani of Claudius II Gothicus struck by his brother Quintillus and his eventual successor, Aurelian – and were extensively copied locally.

So it might be that this was the prototype for your reverse – This undersized example is on the threshold of being indefinable, as to “Copy” vs. “Official”, but from the workmanship, I’d go “official” – more on this further below.

DIVO CLAVDIO / CONSECRATIO antoninianus, likely from the mint of Rome.

I know, it’s a stretch at best, but that’s what you tend to get into with the contemporary copies from Gaul and Britain – some are pretty wild and at best only vaguely suggestive of their prototypes. To be fair, the official prototypes are often so crude and poorly executed that it’s, frankly, difficult to say “official” vs. “Unofficial” about many specimens.

You asked if it was “Celtic” – and that’s a tough call – all the people in northern Europe and Britain who were making copies in this era were, essentially, Celts (and a few immigrant Romans with various origins who had chosen not to evacuate the islands with the legions,) so yes, sort of, but this does not belong to the pre-Caesar’s conquest era Celtic material.  The folks we associate with the billon and gold staters and Æ rings, etc, belong to a time a couple hundred years previous. (Sort of misses the “Asterisk” era both before and after.)
Same people - they had significantly different rulers and political systems, but yes, to stretch the definition you could call it Celtic – “Romano-Celtic” would probably be closer to the actual situation.
