Brilliant find - First ever milled silver test pieces made

1560-1 Elizabeth 1st milled silver sixpence- 6 ponted star mint mark

Elizabeth I (1558-1603), silver milled coinage by Elloye Mestrelle, undated earliest pre-production issue (1560-61),crowned bust left in elaborate dress and ruff, bust type A entirely within legend, initial mark mullet both sides, outer toothed circle and legend surrounding both sides, * ELIZABETH. D. G. ANG. FRAN. ET. HIB. REGINA, rev. long cross fourchée over quartered shield of arms, POSVI DEVM. AD IVTORE M. MEVM,

The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Elizabeth by the Grace of God, Queen of England, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I have made God my helper."

The mint mark of mullet (five-pointed star) was reserved only for use on the pre-production patterns, the currency milled pieces using the six-pointed mint mark of star. Though no original indentures or documentation survives for the production during the milled coinage by Mestrelle, writers Borden and Brown worked out in 1983 the sequence of dies used for the milled coinage, this represents the beginning being an example of the first milled coin ever produced in this country, the earliest issue struck in either December 1560 or January 1561.

Elloye Mestrelle likely arrived from Paris with his family in 1559, and along with his sibling Philip was already a skilled engraver. It is thought that he came to England to sell his skills to the Mint, as the Queen was concentrating her energy into the recoinage, having ascended the throne the year before. He may well have lost employment engraving in France, as the first mention of him is in a pardon by Queen Elizabeth of 24th March 1561 where he is forgiven for any treasons, felonies or offences before his arrival at the Mint dating before 1st March 1559. He seems to have secured a contract during 1560 at the Mint and was known to be acquiring materials for his machinery in June of that year.

THE 16TH. (THE QUEEN'S) LANCERS (1812 - 1922)

The 2nd Light Horse was a British cavalry regiment raised in 1759. They first saw action at the siege of Belle Isle in 1761 and later fought in the American war of Independence. They were later renamed the 16th Lancers and earned the nickname 'Scarlet Lancers' because they were the only lancers to wear a scarlet tunic. They are the only British cavalry regiment to break an infantry square, which they did at Aliwal in the Punjab in January 1846.

7.85g, 27.6mm

I can't give you quite as detailed a cataloging here as usual, but I can give you a general ID. It may not be 100% as described for this piece in RIC, but it is a Nero as, to be sure.

One of your diggers pulled a good one here - Nero is always in demand and subsequently brings prices well above comparably scarce 1st century AD.asses. This one, of course, wouldn't probably do very well at auction, but it will probably be a prize for the digger.

What I can tell you is that it's an Æ as of Nero from the mint at Lugdunum.
Therein lies the problem - Nero used literally dozens of slightly different legends on his Æ and there isn't quite enough here to pick a probable match out of a list of 75 known Æ legends for Nero (not all 75 of them are candidates, but still there are quite a few possibilities).
I am sending you edited photos accompanied, side-by-side, with my best guess for a match - the description happens to be in Spanish, but you can probably figure it out easily enough.

This centenionalis is so crude that I can't tell you with certainty whether it was struck at an official or an unofficial mint.(ie: a contemporary copy).
The obverse legend is not really clear, but I believe this is supposed to be Constans, however it could be any one of Constantine's sons except Crispus who was not still around at this time. If it's Constantine I, and having only one standard, it dates to the adjustment of 335 or later. The obverse legend ends in AVG so it's almost certainly after 337, unless it's Constantine I - his sons were all Caesars until their elevation to Augusti at the time of his death in  337.
The reverse is the extremely commonly seen GLORIA EXERCITVS with two soldiers standing facing, heads turned towards each other, each holding spear in inner hand and resting on shield with outer hand. These are a late part of the enormous emission of coins originally commissioned to honor the Imperial capital's move from Rome to Constantinople (330).
It is possible that the Gloria Exercitus types are the most numerous coins surviving from antiquity - if not the most common, they're definitely among the top 2 or 3 most common.
If there ever was an exergual mintmark it's either struck off-flan, worn off, not adequately struck up, hidden by deposits - ie: there's no way to tell the presumptive mint - but it's likely to have been in northern Europe - or a really bad day at the London mint.

It is, of course, a posthumous commemorative for Marcus Aurelius (which I wrote yesterday in error instead of Antony) he's considered the last of the "good emperors" and died in 180 AD. Issues with "CONSECRATIO" and an eagle on the reverse were a pretty common pattern for recently deceased emperors who were deified - and you can read "DIVVS" - latin for divine or deified on the obverse fairly clearly. There are quite a few various emperors, empresses and imperial family members for whom posthumous types were issued. It's not an uncommon collection theme.
If it cleans up nicely, it should be a fairly handsome example for a MD find.
Email me when you have nice photos and I'll give you proper cataloging on it.

How you deal with the divergent frequency ratings is up to you - the old RIC says "common"; the new RIC says R2 ("rare to very rare") - I guess I'd trust the newer edition - or maybe split the difference and call it "scarce"? It's not in Sear.

This seems to have some potential to really improve nicely with judicious and careful cleaning.

Just enough detail on this broken Roman silver - sent it off for Mark's views

This is most of an AR (it's better silver than would be used a couple of years later) antoninianus of Salonina - wife of Gallienus (253-268) - during the years while he was co-emperor with  his father, Valerian I (253-260) - you may notice the reverse legend ends in AVGG, the two G's indicating multiple emperors.

Salonina, 253-268, AR antoninianus fragment
This piece dates to ca. 257-260 - from the Rome Mint.
Your obverse is SALO-[NINA AVG] draped bust of Saloninia right, set on crescent
The reverse is slightly less certain, but I'm 90+% sure it's [PIETA]S AVGG Pietas seated left extending right hand to two children standing to left (off flan), and resting left hand on a scepter.
If it's what I believe it to be, it would be RIC V, 35; RSC 84; SRCV 10647
There were very few types issued for Salonina during the dual-emperor period - and being (sort of) decent silver, those would have been prime for recall to be re-coined in a poorer billon alloy in some later emission. It doesn't appear to be considered "scarce" however - probably having been part of a relatively major emission.
It's well-worn, indicating a long period of circulation - the main "break" might be from someone making some rough and ready change with a hatchet or knife. The other missing bits are likely due to plow strikes.

25 BC Clacton Cross type, ABC 2356, the companion quarter to British F, the Late Clacton stater, ABC 2332. In ABC it's illustrated as a 'three men in a boat' design but the obverse is probably a degraded boar ; at the moment there are around 30 known, mostly from Essex and Suffolk so it's a definite Trinovantian type.

Vintage 6 sided Single level Put and Take Spinner Game, Circa 1940/50s.

Maker - Unknown

Marks - Stamped to the sides with the following ALL PUT, PUT TWO, TAKE ONE, PUT ONE, TAKE ALL and TAKE TWO

Circa - 1940/50s

Construction -  Solid Brass

Put & Take tops were very popular from the 19th century to the end of the 1940’s.  They could be easily carried in the pocket and used anytime in a bar or home for an quick gambling session.  Each player would contribute chips, coins or currency to a pot, they would then take turns spinning the top. There has been many variants of put and take spinners made throughout history; including ones with six sides, eight sides, ten sides and even 12; they come in single level and bi-level with the upper level showing if you won or lost, the bottom tier would tell you how much; the race horse tops, the bottom tier would indicate which horse won, and the upper tier would give the odds.

Teddy Tail League badge is probably 1930s, the two main makers of these badges were J R Gaunt of London and Roden of London.

'Teddy Tail the cartoon mouse and main character of the Teddy Tail League delighted children with his stories for 40 years. He is distinguished by the suit he wears and always shown with a knot in his tail. A somewhat mischievous guy he loved the occasional prank, parties and getting into all sorts of adventures with his friends. Teddy Tail lived in the little village of Whiskertown whose friend included Dr. Beetle, Piggy, Kitty Puss the cat and Dougie the duckling amongst others.

Teddy Tail’s main claim to fame is that his is the first cartoon strip regularly featured in a British newspaper. His first appearance was in the Daily Mail on the 5th April 1915 and continued until 1962. He disappeared in 1942, a victim of wartime paper shortages and post-war austerity but was revived in 1949 to the delight of his so many fans'.
